
Santa Margarita (in Catalan and officially Santa Margalida) is a Mallorcan municipality belonging to the Pla de Mallorca region. It borders the municipalities of María de la Salud, Muro, Artá, Petra and Ariany. It has 11,207 inhabitants, 5,777 men and 5,430 women, distributed between Santa Margarita and two other population centers (Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina) belonging to the same municipality.
Santa Margalida is a town located in the interior of Mallorca and a short distance from the northeast coast of Mallorca. It is located 50 km from Palma and 20 km from Alcudia. In its vicinity we find the towns of Muro, María de la Salut and Ariany. The municipality of Santa Margalida is made up of three urban centers, Santa Margalida, Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina. The approximate population of the entire municipality is 12,000 inhabitants.
Santa Margalida is surrounded by cultivated fields, mainly cereals and fields with carob, almond and olive trees. Its economy is based on tourism and the center of the town is where the majority of bars and establishments are concentrated, here is the main square where the weekly market is held.
